Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka as well as the biggest city and main harbor of the country, holds within itself all the colors and cultures that make up the island, merging them in a mosaic of markets, gardens and buildings of any kind, all of which is behind a narrow strip of seafront. Kandy is situated at an altitude of 465 m above sea level and is, without any doubt, the most beautiful city in Sri Lanka. It was established in the XIV century and two centuries later it became the capital of a Ceylonese independent kingdom that lasted until 1815, year in which the city was conquered by British troops. It a sacred place of Buddhism thanks to the presence of Buddha’s Tooth relic preserved in Sri Dalada Maligawa, a fascinating temple on the Kandy lake banks.
